The trailer for Netflix’s long-awaited ‘Don’t Look Up’ has arrived

When news of perhaps the most insane, A-list packed casting of 2020 dropped late last year, we could barely contain ourselves. After way too many months of waiting, Adam Mckay's new Netflix comedy, Don't Look Up finally has an official trailer. You heard us! Below, is everything you need to know about the film.

The cast of Don't Look Up

It would seem that everyone we are obsessed with (plus a few add ons) has been cast to star in the film. Jennifer Lawrence, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Matthew Perry, Kid Cudi, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Cate Blanchett and Rob Morgan are all set to star in the upcoming film. Truly, Don't Look Up will be one for the ages, and Netflix has confirmed that the film will hit theatres first on December 10, 2021 before landing on the streaming platform come December 24.

When it comes to casting, any number of these celebrities paired together is likely to cause an internet meltdown on many levels, so all of them together feels like an extremely chaotic announcement.  This is the first film in three years that J-law is going to star in, while it's Grande's first non-musical acting role since "Scream Queens".

The plot

As for the plot, it's said to follow Lawrence and DiCaprio as the leads in the film, who star as astronomers who predict an earth-destroying meteor is on course to hit, ending civilisation. Unfortunately, during their media tour of the world to warn global leaders, they realise no one really GAF. A very predictable response in the Trump-ian era of dismissing science, as director McKay notes himself, “While we’re scouting this movie, this is all going on with the coronavirus and we’re seeing clips of Trump saying ‘ah it’s nothing’…meanwhile this thing is proliferating in this frightening way and we all had to run and jump on a plane and get out of town and come back to Los Angeles,” he said in an interview with the Rolling Stone.

McKay has written, directed and co-produced the film alongside Kevin Messick, under McKay’s Production company, Hyperobject Industries.

The trailer of Don't Look Up

In the trailer, which has just dropped, DiCaprio and Lawrence are seen as Dr. Randall Mindy and Dr. Kate Dibiasky as they panic and then take their breakthrough to the US president played by Meryl Streep (!) and her Birkin carrying son, played by Jonah Hill. Exquisite.

Personally, we can't wait to see all cast members sharing screen time. From our favourite Capricorn and Call Me By Your Name star, Timothée Chalamet to the ever-iconic Meryl Streep, to every queer woman's favourite Cate Blanchett, and even sleazy Leo, there is undoubtedly someone to get everyone riled up about the upcoming production. Until the December D-day, we'll be re-familiarising ourselves with the cast members who have starred alongside each other in previous productions like Chalamet and Streep in Little Women, Blanchett and DiCaprio in The Aviator, and DiCarpio and Hill in The Wolf of Wall Street.
