90s icon Jennifer Lopez and heartthrob Armie Hammer star in action-led comedy, ‘Shotgun Wedding’

Jennifer Lopez Armie Hammer Shotgun Wedding

If there was one on-screen collaboration we weren't expecting from this year, it was the chance to see 90s style icon, Jennifer Lopez and heartthrob and Call Me By Your Name actor, Armie Hammer, star alongside each other in an action-led comedy. But of course, there are no rules in 2020, so the universe is delivering us just that, with the announcement that the duo's latest film, Shotgun Wedding, is heading to Amazon Prime Video.

Shotgun Wedding will see Jennifer Lopez star as Darcy and Armie Hammer portray Tom, a couple who gather their loveable but opinionated (and often destructive) families for the ultimate destination wedding. As the pair begin to get cold feet leading up to their ceremony, their relationship isn't the only thing that begins to go south, as their entire wedding party is taken hostage.

“Jennifer and Armie’s irresistible magnetism, separately and together, make them the perfect pairing for this action comedy,” said Erin Westerman, president of production for Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group.

“They are both incredibly funny actors that can also deliver on the action, but what sets this movie apart is the way their infectious chemistry commands the screen. You can’t take your eyes off them.”

Another blockbuster on Lionsgate's extensive list, the film was snapped up by the streaming platform for a host of major international territories, including France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand; while Lionsgate will retain the domestic rights for the film. The decision to sell to Amazon Prime follows a similar landmark move by Warner Bros. to stream every film in their 2021 film slate on HBO Max the same day it is released in theatres.

Shotgun Wedding follows a busy year for Hammer, who starred in the Netflix thriller, Rebecca, alongside Lily James and the adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic tale, Death on the Nile, alongside Wonder Woman's leading lady, Gal Gadot.

Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore will lead the film, based on screenplay written by by Mark Hammer (Beautiful Ruins) and Liz Meriwether (New Girl). Production for the film has not yet begun, with the team's sights set on an early 2021 start time.
