Jacquemus is teaming up with Nike for a collection of minimalist sportswear

Not to be the person to say, "I told you so", but we did tell you a Nike x Jacquemus collaboration was on the way. We just have the final confirmation we needed after Simon Porte Jacquemus made the announcement over Instagram.

Three years in the making, the designer has dropped clues pointing to the collaboration in his Fall/Winter 21 La Montagne collection lensed in Hawai'i, as well as through various selfies (including this one with his dachshund TouTou). The collaboration is female-focussed but will arrive with a line of unisex footwear, namely a new iteration of Simon Porte's favourite Nike style, the Humara. Its magic lies in the opportunity it presents for Jacquemus to reach a wider audience and include something for everybody.

Taking cues from Nike's rich heritage of both indoor and outdoor sports, specifically vintage ACG (All Conditions Gear) styles that we saw recently revived with models like Bella Hadid stepping out in full-length cargo skirts, it speaks to Simon Porte's own love of sports which has always been at the heart of the brand. After all, it's well-documented with his iconic hot-hiker collection La Montagne. Naturally, the partnership will also be imbued with the minimal slinky body positive styles we've come to recognise as the DNA of Jacquemus.

So what can we expect from Jacquemus x Nike? From the information we have so far, it will be comprised of 15 neutral-toned pieces including the reimagined Humara sneakers. There will be a pleated skirt in homage to his favourite athletes like Naomi Osaka, and a backless dress nodding to the heritage of tennis. A pair of pearl-white seamless bikes shorts will also make an appearance, taking advantage of Nike's knowledge in technical materials and processes, plus pointing to Princess Diana. As for the rest? We're just going to have to wait a little longer to find out.

Speaking on the collaboration, in a press release Simon Porte Jacquemus said, "For this collaboration with Nike, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets athletic women’s sportswear in a minimal way," he announced. "I have always been inspired by vintage ACG pieces and Nike campaigns from the ’90s. Having this imagery in mind, we designed women’s athletic wear with sensuous details and neutral colors, along with my own interpretation of the Humara — my favorite Nike shoe. It was important for the collection to be accessible, for all bodies, and to be a natural blend of Jacquemus style and Nike performance," he continued.

Speaking of the sneaker, the brand released a first look of the new Humara-inspired kicks via their Instagram, which will be released in line with the rest of the collection.
