Jacquemus debuts ‘La Montagne’, an ode to the hot hiker

Hot hiker summer is the mood du jour for Jacquemus' most recent collection, La Montagne, a joyful tribute to the outdoors, only held indoors with a live audience - what normality!

Entitled, La Montagne, translating to The Mountain in English, the brand has been gearing up for a collection release for the past few weeks, with teaser imagery of snippets of the collection, which debuted this morning to a live audience, and Jacquemus' Instagram followers.

It was a color-blocked dream imbued with tactile outerwear and feminine silhouettes. Presented as both womenswear and menswear, there were tiny cropped tops with a single, tiny, gold 'Jacquemus' nameplate holding them together worn across both, cropped puffer jackets in classic neutrals and floral prints and appliques. Knitwear featured heavily, in many iterations. Crop tops, faceless balaclava's, pullover sweatshirts, and zip-up bralettes. Hot pink suits, skirts and dresses in zip-up, tactile fabric featured alongside rust corduroy co-ords with icy blue overcoats. Drawstrings featured heavily, but not in a linen beach pant kind of way, in a corded, elasticated kind of way that nods to adjustable hiking ties.

So often, we expect Simon Porte Jacquemus to hold an elaborate destination show that celebrates the richness of the French countryside, especially since he's been teasing an outdoorsy collection for the past weeks. "For this collection, after such a particular year, I wanted to gather people inside and share a fashion moment together. I wanted to focus on the clothes, the silhouettes, the colours, the fabrics, the details and the energy of the models." He wrote via Instagram, "I wanted the set to be minimal and sharp, recreating an abstract artistic mountain that portrays the inspiration of the collection."

A sentiment that rings true within the clothing. Considered and detailed, perhaps even more than past collections, La Montagne felt complete. Something for everyone, every season. Footwear was just as exciting as ever, with mid-height heels covered in multi-toned shearling, utilitarian sneakers, and hiking boots, complimented with knee-high socks in the same color. Shearling was translated again onto mid-size bagx and oversized totes, while Jacquemus introduced new silhouettes alongside. Boxy, streamlined mid-size crossbody bags with double straps and two-toned leather detailing.

Welcome back Jacquemus, it was worth the wait. You can shop the collection now via the Jacquemus website, and watch the show, below.
