Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry to go head-to-head as duelling spies in action thriller ‘Maude v Maude’

I don't think there will ever come a time when the world gets sick of watching female movie stars kick some serious ass on the silver screen in an action movie. Whether it's Michelle Yeoh executing a killer kung-fu sequence in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, or it's the holy trinity of Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz teaming up to fight crime in Charlie's Angels, it's a genre that just simply never gets old. So, when we heard that two of Hollywood's most well-known female action stars – in Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry – were teaming up to to co-produce and co-star in a new action thriller, we were appropriately psyched.

Maude v Maude has been described as a 'Bond v Bourne' type action film, but the rest of the plot has been kept tightly under wraps. Given the film was the subject of a reportedly 'intense' bidding war over the weekend, we are expecting big things. Both Jolie and Berry are no strangers to the genre. In fact, they are some of its biggest stars – Jolie leading the original Lara Croft: Tomb Raider film adaptations. She also seems to have a bit of a penchant for playing spies, having also starred in both Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Salt. Berry of course has lead her own storied career in action flicks, as Bond girl Jinx in the blockbuster instalment Die Another Day, and alongside Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum. She was also Catwoman, and Storm in X-Men  – no biggie.

This film will mark the first time the Oscar-winning leading ladies will star in a film together, despite their combined cultural impact on film since the early 2000s. Roseanne Liang (Shadow in the Cloud) is on board to direct, from Scott Mosier’s script.

While there isn't much else to report yet in terms of a release date, we'll keep you updated here.
