Watch the trailer for Apple TV+’s new murder mystery series ‘City on Fire’

Watch the trailer for 'City on Fire' series.

If you've been itching for a new crime drama or murder mystery series to sink you teeth into ever since the end of shows like Pretty Little Liars, look no further than the newest Apple TV+ series City on Fire. Based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name by Garth Risk Hallberg, the show was crafted by the writers of The O.C. and Gossip Girl, so we know we're in for a real treat.

What's it about?

City on Fire follows the aftermath of the shock death of NYU student Samantha, who is shot in Central Park on the Fourth of July. With no witnesses and no physical evidence, her best friend Charlie and investigators struggle to find her killer. However, as their investigations unfold, it becomes clear that Samantha may have been keeping some secrets of her own – and that she may be crucially linked to a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy real estate family uptown.

While the original book storyline was set in the 70s, with Samantha's accident taking place on New Year's Eve, the trailer noticeably diverges, taking place in 2003 on US Independence Day. We're excited to see how the rest of the story plans out on screen, and see how true to the original storyline the rest of the plot remains.

The crime drama will star Wyatt Oleff as Charlie (IT and Guardians of the Galaxy) and Chase Sui Wonders as Samantha (of A24's Bodies, Bodies, Bodies fame), alongside familiar faces like Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella, Ashley Zukerman, Xavier Clyde and Max Milner.

Where can I watch it?

You'll be able to watch the eight-episode series globally on Apple TV+, with the first three episodes of City on Fire available to stream from Friday 12 May. Subsequent episodes will air on the streaming platform every Friday after that.
