Twihards activate – a ‘Twilight’ TV series is officially on its way

twilight series

If you missed Twilight fever because you were too busy trying to recreate Lady Gaga's hair bow or better yet, you weren't born, you'll soon have your chance to get in on the action. Lionsgate Television has confirmed that it's in the early stages of development for a new series that would see Stephenie Meyer's wildly successful novels return to the screen. So dust off your Team Edward tee (or steal your older sibling's) and continue reading. Below, everything we know about the forthcoming Twilight reboot series.

Who is involved?

When we mentioned the series was in the early stages of development, we meant it. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the series is not yet connected with a streamer or network as Lionsgate plans to "lead the development on the project before shopping the rights to the package". As a result, there is no timeline for when the series will be taken to potential buyers (or premiere for that matter).

It is believed that Stephenie Meyer will be involved with the adaptation but to what extent is unknown. As for who will be stepping into the career-defining roles of Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black? All we can offer is it certainly won't be any of the original actors, least of all Robert Pattinson.

Given that the film franchise, starring Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Pattinson, grossed more than $3.4 billion worldwide, it's clear the studio is hedging their bets on a similar success. Given the Twilight renaissance we're currently experiencing, it sounds like a fruitful time to return to Forks.

The Twilight reboot series is not the first instance of a popular book series being revived for a current audience. Only recently Max (formerly known as HBO Max), announced it would be rebooting the Harry Potter franchise into a series spanning a decade for similar reasons we imagine. However, at least as far as Twilight is concerned, the author isn't a violent TERF.

Anyway, we'll be sure to keep you across any breaking news around the upcoming Twilight series as it unfolds. In the meantime, it may just be time for another Twilight movie marathon?
