Artistry and craftsmanship is not dead and as with the Maison of Dior, we are constantly being reminded of the two symbioses at work.

A clever play on the french "j'aime Dior", Gem Dior's artistic director Victoire de Castellane's latest assemblage for the Atelier, showcasing seven watches and 11 pieces of fine, contemporary jewellery.

 

 

 

 

As seen and referred to as a union of nature and couture - Gem Dior presented a new challenge for the long standing Atelier craftsmen. Abstract, tactile but delicate and organic, the jewellery line marries natural formations of minerals and precious gemstones with fine gold and delicate diamonds. Something that Victoire de Castellane is quickly becoming renown for, welding finer materials with nature's most precious and rare, rough-cut gems, the artistic director wanted to design a collection that was more abstract than figurative.

 

 

 

 

“The spirit of this collection is modern, it’s a style that I would describe as abstract-organic, an organized disruption that turned out to be a true technical challenge for our ateliers”, Victoire de Castellane said.

Three exclusive savoir-faire films majestically walk us through the Maison's creative process from rigorous design to final fabrication. We see a play in asymmetry, colour, mix matching of jewels and the layering of the precious gemstones of tourmaline, turquoise, malachite, lapis lazuli and tiger's eye only to mention a few.

 

 

 

 

The savoir-faire captivates and showcases the beauty in the Atelier's finest and most delicate traditions in metalwork. Drawing inspiration from the way Monsieur Dior pinned his fabric swatches from his couture shows onto paper, the pieces themselves follow cues unlikely for fine jewellery. They experiment with atypical plays in geometry and shapes that are deliberately and intentionally misaligned in their construction. A strong but quirky collection and a true tribute to impassioned craftsmen and a glorifying of natural minerals -  the collection reveals to us the meaning of a true symbiosis in its unveiling of Monsieur Dior's love for Mother Nature and couture.
