The White Lotus will return for season two in October

The White Lotus

Coming to you today with some good news and some bad news. The good news, is that The White Lotus has been renewed by HBO for a second season, reports Variety, so for those who have been lapping up all that the show, set in a hotel in Hawai'i has to offer, you're in luck! The shameful news, is that the show will be recruiting a new crop of characters for season two, because The White Lotus Hotel is moving! Which warrants new staff and new guests.

Cast

The only small dose of relief is that everyone's favourite character – Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya – is not going anywhere. From a recent snippet of the upcoming trailer, it appears Tanya and Greg's relationship survived the brief hiatus between seasons, as we watch the two zoom up a mountain on a moped to presumably the Sicilian hotel.

As for the rest of season two's guests? Thrown into the mix is sardonic queen Aubrey Plaza who will play Harper Spiller, “a woman on vacation with her husband and his friends,” per The Hollywood Reporter. Joining Plaza is Sabrina Impacciatore, who appears to be the season's new Murray Bartlett, while F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli and Adam DiMarco, will play three generations of Di Grasso men – a grandson, father and grandfather – travelling together to no doubt return to their Italian roots.

Tom Hollander, Will Sharpe, Theo James, Meghann Fahy (who you might remember from The Bold Type) and Haley Lu Richardson have also been cast as new guests.

Plot

As we know, much of the show's plot hinges on its location. We can reveal that season two of The White Lotus will take place at another Four Seasons hotel, this time in Sicily, specifically at the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in the resort town Taormina. While, there is no official word of a plot, we do have these character descriptions to go off which are telling all by themselves. It appears we're in for some family drama, marital issues and a good helping of the chaotic unknown.

Series creator Max White, who is responsible for writing and direction through the first entire season, told IndieWire that his plan is for the series to follow an anthology-style, with a new resort in a different part of the world each season

Release date

Season 2 of “The White Lotus” will be debuting in October, after the September 12 Primetime Emmy Awards, at which the series’ first season is nominated for 20 prizes, including outstanding limited series, writing and directing gongs for White, and supporting mentions for eight cast members.
