Swarovski has unveiled its 2023 holiday campaign today, a series of vibrant and fantastical images that bring together two legends of the fashion industry behind the camera – iconic American photographer Steven Meisel (creator of some of the most iconic images in fashion), and pioneering British makeup artist Pat McGrath (renowned for make-up techniques that push the boundaries of self-expression). With a pairing like this on hand, how could the results be anything less than magic?

The visually enrapturing campaign centres around five different personalities, each a personification of some of the Austrian jeweller's most iconic collections over the years; each somewhere in between a superhero and a mythical creature. Each ethereal character in front of the lens – Blue Gema, Mesmera Stardust, Matrix Supernova, Punk Luna and Hyperbola Nebula – is distinctive in their own way, and yet alike; like a singular crystal expertly cut to reflect a prismatic spectrum of lights.

 

 

Since 1895, the Austrian brand has been at the frontier of impeccable craftsmanship, and their latest campaign writes the next chapter of Swarovski's evolving Crystal Metamorphosis story, furthering the brand's ethos of joyful extravagance, savoir-faire and a mastery of catching the light, and highlighting the transformational powers of Swarovski crystals.

“Our holiday campaign is a celebration of the infinite possibility of self-expression and creativity in the way that only Swarovski can bring," said Swarovski's creative director Giovanna Engelbert.

"My vision centered around the idea of women, all with distinct looks and personalities, transforming into the jewellery pieces they are wearing. Together with Steven Meisel and Pat McGrath, we have created magic in a series of images that capture the festive glamour and wonder of the holiday season.”
