We can’t stop giggling at the trailer for Dakota Johnson’s new film, ‘Splitsville’

It's Dakota Johnson's world, we're all just living in it. While we're still reeling from Materialists (sorry to anyone who went into that expecting a rom-com) the actress has already set her sites on yet another project: Neon's Splitsville. And today, there's a (hilarious) trailer to mark the occasion. Below, everything we know about the project so far.

What is Splitsville about?

As you may have gleaned from the trailer, Splitsville follows a couple whose relationship reaches a crossroad after just a one year of marriage. In need of support, the husband, Carey, turns to a friend for support, who reveals that the secret to his happy marriage is an open relationship. You can probably guess where things head from here: both husbands sleep with their friends' wives, and their respective marriages quickly unravel. It might sound like a fairly heady topic, but if the first trailer is anything to go by, it's actually going to be a pretty hilarious film.

Who is involved?

The couple at the centre of it all is Carey and Ashley, played by Kyle Marvin and Adria Arjona respectively. The friends they begin swinging with are Julie and Paul, played by Johnson and Michael Angelo Corvino. In addition to acting, Corvino also serves as the film's director — his second directorial project, since The Climb in 2019, which he also acted in. And the screenplay for Splitsville was a joint effort by both Corvino and Marvin.

Rounding out the ensemble cast is Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, O-T Fagbenle, Charlie Gillespie, Simon Webster, Prince Rodn3y, Jessika Mathurin, Stephen Adekolu, Tyrone Benskin, Nahéma Ricci and Letitia Brookes.

When will Splitsville premiere?

The film debuted at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where it received a 6-minute standing ovation. It's slated for release in theatres in the not-so-distant future, on August 22.
