Dakota Johnson's 'The Materialist' press tour proves yet again she's a style icon for the ages

Dakota Johnson’s fashion canon is proof that quiet confidence never goes out of style. Her latest role in The Materialist (alongsidie Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans no less) has only further cemented her as a modern-day style icon.

In the film, Johnson's character Lucy has delivered a lesson in understated drama. There was the slinky blue Proenza Schouler dress she wore when she meets Harry for the first time. In New York, she dons the Nadira dress from Reformation for a walk in the park . The standout? A flowing pastel yellow Doên dress.

But Johnson's no stranger to serving a look. She has a long-standing relationship with Gucci – becoming an ambassador for the Italian fashion house since the mid-2010s. As the face of Gucci Bloom – straring in the campaign alongside Hari Nef and Petra Collins – she brought an ethereal edge to the fragrance world. And on the Met Gala steps, she’s donned the House time and again. Who could forget the magenta Alessandro Michele gown she wore to the 2019 Gala, complete with crystal hearts and a celestial headpiece? Or the 2022 look – lace, velvet, drama – equal parts rock star and Renaissance painting.

Off the carpet, Johnson’s street style reads like a capsule wardrobe dream: vintage Levi’s, oversized blazers, perfectly scuffed boots, and oversized sunglasses. She dresses like someone who doesn’t need to check the mirror twice. Whether she’s ducking into an LA coffee shop in an aged tee and leather loafers or layering tonal knits in New York, her look always lands somewhere between “walked out of a Nancy Meyers movie” and “I own a rare vinyl of Rumours.”

Below, we round up all the best Dakota Johnson style moments from over the years.
