They say good things take time, and in the case of Caroline Polachek's latest release, we'd say that's exactly the case. In fact, her newest song, 'On The Beach', took eight years to perfect.
Released today as part of the soundtrack for the new PlayStation 5 video game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the song was co-produced with Danny L Harle and co-written with Harle and Hideo Kojima, and even comes with an alternate version, 'Timefall Mix'.
“‘On the Beach’ was actually one of the first songs I ever made with Danny L Harle, but it was too alien and industrial—almost too evil—to work sense on Pang [her third studio album], so I set it aside ’til the right thing came along,” Polachek said in a press release.
“When Kojima approached me about DS2, I showed him the sketch of it, and he agreed that it was a perfect fit, and, so, eight years after starting this song, it got reopened, extended, and finished for the perfect setting.”
If the name didn't give it away, 'On the Beach' is the title track for the video game, which serves as a sequel to the 2019 original, Death Stranding. Set 11 months after the first installation, the game play takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, and has enlisted the voices of an A-list ensemble, including Elle Fanning, Léa Seydoux, Norman Reedus, George Miller, and Nicolas Winding Refn.
Musically, Polachek is in good company, with the first version of the game's soundtrack including songs by Chvrches, Major Lazer, and Khalid, to name just a few.
