Sandra Oh and Awkwafina are teaming up for a new female-led Netflix comedy

Sandra Oh Awkwafina Netflix film

Sandra Oh and Awkwafina are giving us something to laugh about in 2020, with news that the pair are collaborating on a new mystery Netflix comedy.

The award-nominated pair are set to play estranged sisters, bonded together by one's desire to fulfil the other's life-long dream – to appear as a contestant on her favourite game show. Oh will reportedly play the “lonely recluse” whose life will be turned upside down by her “trainwreck” sister (Awkwafina) who will go to any lengths to mend their relationship.

Although the title of the film is yet to be determined, what we do know is that the comedy will be written by Workaholics’ Jen D’Angelo, who also happens to be working on the Disney+ sequel, Hocus Pocus. Produced by Hustlers', Jessica Elbaum, alongside Will Ferrell, Itay Reiss, Maggie Hasskins and of course Oh and Awkwafina, there's no doubt Netflix's latest project will leave us in stitches.

Although Awkwafina's presence in the world of comedy is well known – blowing up our screen's in Crazy Rich Asians and not slowing down for a moment since – the new Netflix film presents an opportunity to see Oh in a different light. The multi-Golden Globe winner is best known for her roles as Cristina Yang on the medical drama, Grey's Anatomy, and most recently as Eve Polastri in Killing Eve. However, this new venture will give viewers a chance to revisit the sharp and witty comedic timing the actress showed while co-hosting the Golden Globes in 2019.

Netflix has had an incredibly successful year so far, and clearly won't be slowing down any time soon, as they continue to tap into the satirical-humour category they have expertly mastered. While we wait for more news on Sandra Oh and Awakwafina's new film, here's everything new coming to Netflix this November.
