Reformation footwear is back with 18 reinvented styles

Back in 2019, Reformation launched its footwear line before pulling it off the shelves shortly after, out of concerns that the shoe line wasn't sustainable enough to meet the brands famed standards of sustainable practices. According to the brand, footwear makes up roughly 18 to 25 percent of total carbon emissions from the fashion industry, and developing and producing sustainable footwear, is no small feat.

Now, Reformation has returned with a footwear range where sustainability is front of mind, by cutting back on virgin plastics by 75 percent, shipping with sustainable materials, and making sure the shoes are all 100-percent recyclable, as well as elevated.

“Frankly, when it comes to sustainability, shoes suck,” Joni Pangsaeng, Reformation’s Footwear Design and Merchandising Director, told Observer. “For our relaunch, we went back to the drawing board to ensure we were making our shoes more sustainable and transparent than ever before. This means knowing 100 percent of our farms, cutting virgin plastic by 75 percent, and going all the way to the end of each product’s life by making 100 percent of the shoes recyclable.” He said. “Our new shoe collection allows our customers to both be sustainable and look cute, without sacrificing one for the other. Aesthetically, we were really driven by ’90s-inspired strappy silhouettes and ruching details that can pair well with the rest of our vintage-inspired designs.”

Not only is the brand using all sustainable materials for shipping, and has also partnered up with Looptworks on a take-back program, so the brand can completely recycle the footwear as a closed-loop system.

The first Ref Shoes 2.0 collection, which includes 18 different styles, is now available to shop on Reformation’s website, with new silhouettes dropping throughout the season. Preview the collection, below.
