Another charismatic pairing is at the heart of the ‘Bridgerton’ prequel series

bridgerton prequel trailer

It's been a while since we last heard news from BridgertonWe were starting to get antsy. Thankfully the latest dispatch of information from Netflix brings good tidings, and a trailer for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, AKA the prequel series that promised to dig into the early life of Queen Charlotte.

The trailer begins in a characteristically Bridgerton fashion. We are given our first glimpse of Queen Charlotte, young, fiery and played by India Amarteifio, attempting to climb a wall and escape the castle boundaries. Soon after a handsome nobleman catches her scaling the wall and she attempts to enlist his help. But what is she running from? Her date with the King, who she assumes is "a beast or a troll". As the interaction unfurls, we come to realise the man, acted by Corey Mylchreest, is not who he seems.

It wouldn't be Bridgerton without some witty back and forth between its leads. Will this pairing rival that of Anthony and Kate or Daphne and Simon? We have a good feeling.

For those who have been following the Bridgerton prequel updates, you'll know that the limited series will follow Queen Charlotte's storyline. And although there's no sign of them in the trailer, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will also explore the backstories of both a young Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton. The trio are the undercover stars of Bridgerton, so we're looking forward to delving deeper into their own personal histories.

At this stage, Netflix is keeping a release date for the series under-wraps. But what we do know is that it's likely to coincide with the premiere of Julia Quinn's prequel novel. Haven't heard about the novel yet? Well, Queen Charlotte's early life will be explored in a new book by Julia Quinn, the author behind Bridgerton in the first place, in what we imagine will turn out to be a chicken-or-the-egg scenario. Watch this space.
