Mugler is returning to the runway this January

mugler runway return

It's hard to believe Mugler has been absent from the runway for three years now. The label, helmed by Casey Cadwallader, has maintained a presence in the zeitgeist with its cutting edge video campaigns that tap a whole host of fashion's fiercest; including the likes of Shalom Harlow and Amber Valletta, Eartheater and Megan Thee Stallion, Lourdes Leon and Bella Hadid, along with Chloë Sevigny and Dominique Jackson. In any case, the French House has announced it will return to the runway for the first time since the pandemic on January 26.

Taking place at La Villette, a vast park-complex hybrid in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, the Mugler runway will bookend the Spring Summer 2023 Couture Week presentations, falling on the final day after Robert Wun at 8pm CET. As for what is in store? That's anyone's guess.

The last time Mugler participated in the Fashion Week calendar was back in February 2020 and its subsequent hiatus has allowed space for experimentation. It's for this reason that we're expecting the return to the runway to be a little unorthodox. As Pascal Conte-Jodra, Mugler's managing director of fashion, tells WWD, in the time away "we learned how to entertain, we learned how to surprise, we learned how to get attention and to please our audience."

"You can trust Casey to cook up something unexpected," Conte-Jodra continued. "At Mugler, we take risks.”

Mugler has been cultivating palpable hype across social media, as we've witnessed with its prevalence in the music scene, dressing heavitters like all four members of K-Pop group BLACKPINK, Beyoncé for her RENAISSANCE music videos, and Dua Lipa during her Future Nostalgia tour. Cadwallader was also enlisted to create one of Chloë Sevigny's three wedding day looks, and we haven't stopped thinking about it since.
