Lil Nas X has announced a release date for his new single titled ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’

Lil Nas X

Queer rap icon Lil Nas X has been teasing his new single, Montero (Call Me By Your Name) for eight long months now. Finally he announced that the release date for the track via Instagram yesterday, which will be March 26, as well as revealing the song’s quite literally heavenly cover artwork.

The single, which we already know will slap as hard as Old Town Road has been pre approved by Rihanna herself,  who called it "banging" in a recent livestream. How did she get access to a preview? Lil Nas X released a snippet of himself singing along to the anticipated single in the car via Twitter back in July 2020.

Would it be too much to ask to get her amongst a remix immediately? Perhaps Lil Nas X, Rih Rih, SZA and Frank Ocean can all get together to discuss. A girl can dream.

The track is said to be part of the singers debut album, which is highly anticipated by all, including Rihanna (we imagine).

In the accompanying artwork, the image shows a take on Michelangelo’s famous work, The Creation of Adam, featuring two nude illustrations of the Old Town Road rapper, perched upon and covered up by fluffy clouds. Springs of greenery surround the singer, who appears to be held in place by fine threads in red and white.

Alongside the release of Montero (Call Me By Your Name), Lil Nas X announced earlier this year that he and Miley Cyrus were working on a track in a pre COVID-19 world, adding that there’s still a chance they will drop the track in the future. Bring on the Hannah Montana throwback vibes. Please.
