What we know about the Blackpink documentary coming to Netflix

Blackpink

It's hard not to be totally enamoured with girl-group superstars Blackpink.

This team of performers has conquered the world of entertainment. They have a string of number one hits, they've headlined Coachella and a new song Ice Cream in collaboration with Selena Gomez. They've also made a huge splash in fashion, with member Rosé becoming a new face of Saint Laurent. Her first shoot with the house sent ripples through the fashion industry, earmarking her as a fashion icon to watch.

So we are immensely excited to know that Netflix has a Blackpink documentary on the way.

Four years since their debut in 2016, Blackpink have become one of the most influential groups in the realm of K-pop - and arguably the whole entertainment industry. This new documentary will chart their origin story, the rise to fame and give fans a deeper look into the lives of these four unique talents.

It's called Blackpink: Light Up the Sky and Netflix has partnered with YG Entertainment to bring us all this intimate look at the world of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. The film will include backstage moments, personal conversations and shots of then group's dorm life. It will be a chance to see these stars as their unique and authentic selves.

The documentary film is directed by Salt Fat Acid Heat‘s Caroline Suh and will be premiere on October 14 - so mark your calendars.

“We’re excited to share our story with BLINKs all around the world. We hope this film brings everyone joy,” Blackpink said in a statement.

“We’re lucky to be able to work with one of the biggest girl groups in the world. We’re thrilled to showcase the musicians’ passion to Blackpink fans and our viewers,” Netflix’s VP of Original Documentary Film Adam Del Deo said.

The girls' first ever full album is coming soon. It's called the The Album and according to a promotional poster, it will be released on October 2, just before the release of the Netflix documentary.

The lead single from The Album, ‘How You Like That’ was released in June in anticipation. The song’s official video registering 86.3 million views on its release - breaking the record for most-viewed YouTube clip in a day.

While we very impatiently wait for The Album and for Light Up the Sky, we're watching the video for Ice Cream on repeat. See it below.
