As temperatures start to drop and night chills start to creep in, it seems as though summer is taking its final bow and we are soon to be out of a transeasonal fashion moment, fully confronted by the grips of winter. The polar vortex of July in Sydney is upon us, and it's important to be prepared. We'll soon be piling on the scarves and anything remotely woolly to keep the frostiness at bay.

And when it comes to our all-important outerwear – you really can't go wrong with a classic leather jacket. It does the utmost to keep us warm, whilst also remaining minimal, sturdy throughout the years and of course, effortlessly chic. My personal favourite (faux) leathers have taken quite a battering over the years. They've taken me through windswept months, and offered material to be casually slung over a shoulder whenever I need to shuck off some layers. My rotation features the following: a red motorcycle jacket I thrifted in Stoke Newington, London, a staple black oversized piece for function and form, and a mottled brown number (identical to this slouchy jacket from Ksubi). They've followed me to fields, events, airports, and even offices. Leather jackets are the unshakeable staple piece that will see through multiple renovations of your wardrobe, no matter what.

This winter, start with an investment in something that will last you forever. With this I advise, aim for something high-quality (this doesn't mean high price point – vintage leather is incredible!), and invest carefully so you only buy once and never have to buy again. With a selection of faux leather and cultured leather pieces, buy what you need, not what you want.
