Press play – Boy & Bear debut the new video for ‘3 Moons’

3 Moons Boy & Bear

Introducing the new video for Boy & Bear's 3 Moons - premiering here on RUSSH.

Following the successful release of Boy & Bear's fifth album, At Golden Retriever Studio, we're finally getting to see the moody music video for 3 Moons.

At Golden Retriever Studio is the band's acoustic album, a return to some of their biggest hits, reimagined in a stripped back acoustic arrangement.

“When we tour the USA we often get asked to perform our songs acoustically when we are on the radio. This usually involves acoustic guitars, tambourines and a toy keyboard, with the five of us jammed into a small studio. It gave us the idea to record a selection of acoustic tracks and present them as an album,” Boy & Bear said.

But 3 Moons stands alone as a new track.

Deep and heartfelt, 3 Moons is a story of grief. The brand new music video for the song tells this story with eloquence. Written and directed by Taylor Ferguson. Without further ado, here is 3 Moons.

3 Moons and its video bring together a multi-talented crew who worked to bring the story to life.

Writer and director of the video, Taylor Ferguson, is an award-winning actor. She's worked across film, theatre and television including roles in Cleverman, Glitch and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway. She recently wrapped a role on the new Netflix series, Clickbait. 3 Moons is the first writer/director work for this emerging female film-maker.

3 Moons is about grief: a version of grief. I wanted the audience to feel like we were inside [lead actress] Lily's mind, whilst at the same time being anchored in her reality. I find it fascinating that grief can hit you at any moment and pull you out of the “real” world within seconds.

"Aaron (Cinematographer) and I really wanted to shoot it on film, forcing us to only do one or two takes and to trust that we had the shot. It was fun to have some of the band play a small part too. We wanted it to feel like they were in her grief as well as her reality, which I believe in part connects the song. Is the song a mantra of her grief or is it the beat of her reality?” Taylor said.

Producer of 3 Moons, Geraldine Hakewill, is a prolific actor and musician. Her most recent role is in the upcoming ABC/BBC series Wakefield. She is co-director of the production company Clever Rabbit Productions and has produced several short videos including the dance film Shadow / Self in collaboration with fashion designer Bianca Spender. It won Best Fashion Film at the 2016 Virgin Australian Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Aaron McLisky A.C.S. is the director of photography for 3 Moons. An award-winning cinematographer, most recently Aaron shot the second season of acclaimed television drama Mr. Inbetween (dir. Nash Edgerton, 2019). The series received multiple AACTA Award nominations as well as international critical acclaim.
