Did we just get confirmation that ‘Big Little Lies’ season 3 is happening?

Nicole Kidman reveals a third season of 'Big Little Lies' is coming

Mentally, many of us haven't left the quaint seaside town of Monterey, California ever since we watched the first season of Big Little Lies back in 2017. The gripping who-dunnit series – and its follow-up second season in 2019 – were both heavy hitters in the TV world, and now we finally have confirmation that season 3 will be on its way to us soon.

This week, show producer and star, Nicole Kidman (who just hosted a talk at SXSW Sydney, along with her producing partner), revealed that another season of the hit HBO show is currently in the works. “We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI," she said during a Q&A at a golf tournament (of all places) in Florida.

News of a third season is quite surprising, given HBO boss Casey Bloys said that, after season two was announced, a third season was unlikely: "It’s hard to imagine aligning everybody’s schedule again. The fact that we were able to get season two together is a small miracle."

I guess miracles come in threes.

Who is in the cast of season 3 of Big Little Lies?

We're hoping to see the full caravanserai of cast favourites from the first two seasons make a return to the show for season 3. Fellow show producer Reese Witherspoon, and Hollywood heavyweights like Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley, alongside Kidman, of course.

Now that Iain Armitage is out of his Young Sheldon contract, we could see him return as Ziggy, too.

We're not sure whether season two guest star Meryl Streep would make a return, but perhaps there's room for another big name to be added to the cast list this upcoming season. Only time will tell.

What is season 3 of Big Little Lies about?

It's still early days, so we have no confirmed news about character arcs or plot lines for season 3 as of yet.

When can I watch season 3 of Big Little Lies?

Considering we've only just got word that season 3 is happening, we're likely to not see it on our screen before late next year. We'll keep you updated as we hear more from Kidman and HBO on this point.
