"I don't think he's looking for destruction, I think he's looking for relief." This is the line Shailene Woodley says to her boss in the trailer for To Catch a Killer that gets her recruited to the FBI. I love seeing Woodley in a role like this. I have many a treasured memory of seeing her in The Secret Life of an American Teenager, where she plays a pregnant 15 year year old. Even then she played a strong female lead. More recently, her performance in HBO's Big Little Lies explores the complexities of trauma women face at the hands of abuse. In her new role in To Catch a Killer she's on the other side, hunting a murderer. Set in Baltimore, the film is a murder mystery, compared by First Showing, to a modern-day Silence of the Lambs.
What is the plot of the film?
The plot focuses on a young police investigator wrestling with the demons of her past when she is recruited by the FBI’s chief investigator (Ben Mendelsohn) to help profile and track the work of a disturbed individual. As the police and FBI launch a nationwide manhunt, they are thwarted at every turn by the individual's unprecedented behaviour. Given her tortured psyche, Eleanor may be the only person who can understand the mind of their assailant and bring him to justice.
Who is involved?
Alongside Woodley, Mendelsohn will also star as well as Jovan Adepo, Ralph Ineson, Rosemary Dunsmore, Jason Cavalier, and Mark Camacho. To Catch a Killer is directed by the Argentinian filmmaker Damián Szifron who also directed The Bottom of the Sea, On Probation, and Academy Award-nominated Wild Tales. He also wrote the screenplay, alongside Jonathan Wakeham. The film was produced by Aaron Ryder, Stuart Manashil, Shailene Woodley, Damián Szifron.
When is the release date?
The film will be released in the US theatre starting April 21 2023.
