Sometimes it can feel like the only way to move forwards is to look backwards. In the fashion world, it uncomplicating your process, and reigning things in – coming home to simple tasks like cutting, threading, dyeing and hemming textiles – can almost always be reliably leant on to create something beautiful.
For Balenciaga, their Fall Winter 23 collection was all about paring things back – a sensibility that might, on the surface, seem far from the direction the House has taken in recent years. Creative director Demna returned to his roots, reminiscing on his childhood love of clothing as inspiration for the collection.
