Netflix is officially dusting off the chandeliers and lacing up the corsets: its limited series adaptation of Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence has locked in a dazzling cast.
First teased back in April, the series promises ballrooms, love triangles, and the kind of social scheming that would make even the Succession writers nod in approval. According to Netflix, it’ll stick close to Wharton’s Pulitzer-winning novel, but with a modern edge.
Who is in the cast and what's it about?
Leading the charge is Camila Morrone, fresh off her breakout in Daisy Jones & the Six, stepping into the role of Ellen Olenska – the countess who rolls back into Gilded Age New York like a 19th-century Serena van der Woodsen, ready to casually blow up society’s carefully written rulebook. Kristine Froseth, who already proved she can serve in a period drama in The Buccaneers, will play May Welland, the sweet-but-traditional fiancée whose future is very much tied to...
Enter Ben Radcliffe (Masters of the Air), aka Newland Archer – the sensitive, slightly tortured society gentleman who’s basically stuck in a Bridgerton-style “do I follow my heart or do I do what’s expected of me?” spiral. And to top it off, Margo Martindale (The Americans, Justified) will grace our screens as Mrs. Manson-Mingott, the eccentric matriarch you do not want to mess with. Think Lady Danbury, but with an even sharper tongue and a stronger grip on the family fortune.
Behind the scenes, Emma Frost (The White Queen, The Spanish Princess) is running the show as writer, show runner, and executive producer, alongside a powerhouse production team. Shannon Murphy (Babyteeth) is set to direct the first three episodes (aka the ones that will probably hook us), with Lisa Brühlmann and Natalia Leite also stepping in to keep the drama deliciously high-stakes.
When will it be released?
Netflix hasn't announced a release date yet, but we'll keep you updated when they do.
