We feel like you’ll relate to Jedda Daisy-Culley’s latest exhibition

Jedda Daisy-Culley’s artworks are conduits for emotion. In a visual sense and beyond that, their evocative powers are immense - whether it’s the osmotic sadness of the small watercolours in her recent collection of works entitled Printers and Portals, or the sense of universality awakened by her 2018 solo show, Burns at the Land’s Brim.

Her new exhibition, FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELINGS, is an exploration of the way we express them in this modern age. As Culley explains it, “I start my sentences with: ‘I feel like …’ You do it too. It’s safer, as if what I am about to say is not really an opinion, but something more impermanent.” And, well, yes - exactly. “I’m giving you space to tell me how you feel,” she writes, “So with our feelings combined we might get somewhere in this conversation. Build something together.”

Here, Culley shares a little more of how she feels. And also, the creative process behind the new exhibition - opening tonight at Jerico Contemporary.

Hello, my name is … Jedda-Daisy Culley.

And I’m … Not a camel.

My current project is … FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELINGS
I wanted to explore the temporary nature of a tension or sensation. The tension on a rope or a relationship or a house. Our feelings can sit heavy but here I have tried to explore their transientness; how we drop them in conversation to protect ourselves suggesting our opinions are changeable. I was thinking about how to let something go, I guess.

It was inspired by … Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lol …. Nah initially I was inspired by my time in Jordan looking at the structures the Bedouin people build in the Wadi Rum desert. But I ended up drawing myself from behind; in the mirror.

To create, I need … Space.

My daily ritual is … Coffee.

I’m looking at … My self.

I’m reading … Trick Mirror

I’m following … Fraser Anderson.

My current state of mind is … Hung over.

My greatest extravagance is … My iPhone.

The quality I most admire … Passion.
