If you fell in love with Megan Stalter's performance as Kayla in Hacks, then you'll be glad to know there's plenty more chaotic energy where that came from. And if you're not already acquainted with the woman of the hour, then prepare to be. Stalter is the lead in Lena Dunham's long-awaited return to television, Too Much, and the pairing is every bit as perfect as we'd hope it would be.
Set between New York and London, Too Much follows Stalter’s character, Jess, as she tries to recover from heartbreak by documenting her (very strong) feelings towards her ex's new girlfriend via a private TikTok account. At the same time, she finds herself moving countries and accidentally falling in love again, though this time its with Will Sharpe (who you might remember from The White Lotus season two).
So in honour of her astronomical rise, everything you've ever wanted to know about Megan Stalter, below.
She got her start in comedy on Instagram
Born in Cleveland in 1990, Stalter’s early love for drama morphed into something bigger after she dropped out of college and began cutitng her teeth creatively in Chicago’s improv scene.
By 2018, she was uploading sketch after sketch to Instagram Live. One video in particular — “Hi, Gay”, which sends up corporations during Pride month — went viral with over two million views . That authenticity turned heads at Hacks, where despite admitting she wasn’t a natural auditioner, she landed the role of Kayla in 2021.

In Hacks, Stalter plays Kayla, the loud, clueless, nepo-baby Hollywood assistant with a knack for saying the wrong thing at the worst possible time. What could’ve been a throwaway role quickly became one of the show’s biggest highlights — thanks to Stalter’s ability to deliver complete delusion with absolute sincerity. Over three seasons, Kayla evolved from comic relief to something more layered: entitled, yes, but also vulnerable.
Too Much marks her first big lead
In Too Much, Stalter steps into main-character territory with Jess, who is emotionally volatile, wildly online, and constantly overthinking. But beneath the comedy of it all, it's also quite a heartfelt potrayal, which delves into the realms of heartbreak, personal growth, and uncomfortably.

Her dynamic with Will Sharpe, who plays her unexpected love interest, is palpably tender. After devouring season one, we're already eager for more of this duo in a follow-up season. A girl can dream...

Stalter’s style is also as memorable as her comedy. Bold, expressive, and joyfully feminine, she's shown a penchant for puff sleeves, ruffles, oversized bows, and vintage florals. On the Too Much press tour, she's so far been spotted in designers like Sandy Liang, Batsheva, and vintage Betsey Johnson — all of whom share her love of fashion as feeling, over following trends.
