Daniel Radcliffe is set to play Weird Al Yankovic in new biopic, and frankly we’re not weirded out by this

Weird Al Yankovic biopic

If the last two years have been anything to go by, we know that what feels weird can definitely feel weirder. In news that should come as a surprise to absolutely everybody, Daniel Radcliffe is set to play 'Weird Al' Yankovic in a new biopic titled Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

Yankovic and partner Eric Appel co-wrote the feature, with the two set to direct. Known for for his musical parodies, the musician is the biggest selling comedy musician of all time. With his hits like Eat it and Like a Surgeon making record breaking history, reaching top billing in the Billboard Top 200 charts, as well as five Grammy award winning titles.

The news comes after a comical statement made by the comedian who claimed he was thrilled about casting, adding that "he has no doubt this will be a role that future generations remember him for". Radcliffe is of course famously well known for his title role of Harry Potter, in the book to film franchise; but also recently turned heads in the series, Miracle Workers.

In a press release, it was mentioned that the film will not hold back and will explore every facet of his wacky life. Including the details of his torrid celebrity love affairs and well known deviant escapades. The star has gained nearly 200 screen credits since 1983, even earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

While we don't know much in terms of release just yet, the film is set for production in Los Angeles in February; the production of which will be a first for the new head of Funny or Die. In a statement, the head of production claimed he is very excited to explore the life and colourful past of such a central figure to contemporary pop culture. The film will be available for streaming exclusively with Roku. We'll keep you updated with any new developments.

We've had our first glimpse

On February 22, we got our first glimpse of Daniel Radcliffe partially transformed into a younger Yankovic. Over Twitter Roku dropped an intense pic of a curly haired Radcliffe toying his way around a piano accordion.

On top of this there were also a number of surprise taken-from-the-carpark style images of Radcliffe half dressed in costume.
