5 of the best ways to nail winter’s biggest trend, the Varsity Jacket

Varsity Trend

Call us crazy, but we love a jock style moment, there is something so undeniably wholesome about it. With so many vintage trends making their way back around we would be remiss not to make time for the most tried and true of the sporting fashion lexicon: the Varsity jacket. A style spawned from 50's and 60's preppy high school culture that has continued to defy the ages. The autumn/winter 2022 shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris saw the look displayed on heavy rotation, models and the rest of the fashion set sported punchy 60's iterations, complete with cutesy embroidered patchwork and playful appliqués.

The style certainly has had its fair share of influential followers over the years from Princess Diana showcasing a Green and Gold Philadelphia Eagles Jacket in the early 90's to the late Virgil Abloh making the style a runway design staple. The designer's final autumn/winter 2022 show for Off-White show was celebrated post posthumously at Paris Fashion Week, showcasing an array of his signature bombers.

These days we've been seeing it take on a new form with models and influencers alike giving the style it's own unique spin. From Hailey Bieber's oversized rolled up sleeves, to the king of dad core himself Angus Cloud sporting one for the Ralph Lauren Sport campaign.

Now for autumn and winter the trend is looking to be one of the biggest outerwear moments. So now in preparation of taking over our favourite leather jackets and longline blazers we've put together all the best of the sporty style to try. So all that we really have to left to say is shut up and take all our lunch money.

A reminder that primary colours will always reign supreme in the world of sporting apparel. Bold colours and kitschy patchwork lead the way in the varsity trend. Worn best with a mini dress and a pair of New Balance kicks.

The 70's has been coming back in a big way over the past few years, with the emergence of dopamine dressing and roller disco core propping up on all place, it was only a matter of time before these two worlds would collide. Bright oranges with tanned sleeves, and bold psychedelic prints, it's a look worth bringing out for the pending cooler months.

Pastel Letterman

Baby blues, ballerina pinks and pastel purples, these candy hues will not be going anywhere with this trend. Wear extra oversized with sporty logos for extra 50's vintage flair.
