Rejoice! We will have a new SZA album before the week is out

sza s.o.s

Prepare the fatted calf and sound the alarms: new music from SZA is officially coming our way!

It's been a rough five years since the musician dropped her debut album Ctrl, so we're glad we'll finally have something to "upset ourselves to" in the words of Emma Thompson in Love Actually (what? It's December). While we received the name of the album (S.O.S, in case you were wondering) in November after SZA revealed it in a cover story with Billboard, few other details had surfaced.

About that album cover

However, on December 1 SZA dropped the album cover art for S.O.S which captures the artist sitting on the edge of a diving board hovering above the open ocean. Immediately, people picked up on the fact that the image is a homage to a famous photo of Lady Diana taken a week before the Princess of Wales' tragic death. The people's princess, indeed.

Is there a release date?

The latest development in the will-she-won't-she SZA album saga comes after her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live as a guest host, where she performed her latest single Shirt. At the end of the song, the screen behind her briefly flashed with the copy, "S.O.S 12/9". It may be the briefest bulletin in the history of man, but make no mistake, we will have new music from SZA in our ears before the week is out. That's Friday, for those of you who can't decode America's strange date system.

What songs will feature?

While we're yet to lay eyes on a tracklist for S.O.S we know that SZA's recent single Shirt will feature on the record, as will PSA and an unreleased track called Blind, which we heard briefly at the end of the Shirt music video. Watch this space in case a tracklist drops before the album. Otherwise, mark December 9 in your diaries, girlies.

Stay inspired, follow us.
