It's always a good day when SZA pops up in the news cycle. Although this time it's not to alert us to new music – but also, can we have some? No, our favourite angel earthside is switching it up and trying her hand at acting. SZA has been tapped as the leading lady in Eddie Huang's upcoming film, Tuna Melt. Here's everything we know about the movie so far.
Who has been cast in Tuna Melt?
As mentioned, SZA is involved, and while her talents as a musician have been called upon for film soundtracks like Dear Evan Hansen and Black Panther, this marks her acting debut.
It turns out SZA isn't the only perfect angel girl to sign onto Huang's new project. Euphoria breakout star Chloe Cherry has been cast in Tuna Melt too, although at this stage it's unclear what role she's taken. Meanwhile, Eddie Huang will act as well as direct and produce the film. Scooter Braun and James Shin will both produce for the film as well, under the banner of Braun's SB Projects.
What is Tuna Melt about?
From what we've been able to gather, Huang will lead the film as a hitman who, fresh from another breakup, suddenly meets the love of his (and our) life after completing a job. Naturally, SZA sits in the role of the love interest. According to Deadline, the film has been described as a modern mash-up of Pulp Fiction and High Fidelity, which we take to mean that there will be a heartbroken Rob-type figure, carrying out unsavoury jobs while trying to catch and hold the attention SZA. This description compounded with the involvement of Braun and SZA means we can expect it to be music-forward.
Is there a release date?
Given that the project is still in the early stages of production, there's no word on a release date yet. More to come.
