Forget Brat summer... A Jamie Lee Curtis summer is upon us. The actress has been booked and busy of late, with a guest role in The Bear, and the Freakier Friday sequel nearly here. Now, she's officially stepping into the iconic role of Jessica Fletcher in the highly anticipated Murder, She Wrote reboot. After Deadline revealed Universal’s plans for a new feature adaptation, Curtis confirmed she is “a minute away” from taking on the beloved amateur sleuth originally played by Angela Lansbury. Here's what you need to know.
Who’s involved?
Obviously, the reboot stars Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis, taking over the lead role from Angela Lansbury.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the project, Curtis said, “Oh, it’s… happening." She continued, "We’re a minute away, but yeah, [I’m] very excited. Very excited. But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”
Behind the scenes, the screenplay is reportedly written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, while producers Lord Miller and Amy Pascal are overseeing the project.
What's it about?
Murder, She Wrote was a hit CBS series that aired from 1984 to 1996, starring Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, a retired schoolteacher turned mystery writer with a talent for solving real-life murders. Set primarily in the seaside town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the show followed Fletcher’s adventures as she cracked complex cases, often traveling to various locations to uncover the truth.
While specific details of the reboot remain are under wraps, we're hoping it will honour the legacy of the original while introducing Jessica Fletcher’s sharp wit and sleuthing skills to a new generation.
When will it come out?
While an official release date has yet to be announced, Curtis hinted that the project is very close to beginning production — we'd guess after promo for Freakier Friday wraps up. We'll keep you updated as we know more.
