Everything we know about Netflix’s explosive true-crime docuseries, ‘Murder Among The Mormons’

Murder Among The Mormons

As a major true-crime fan, there's not much that can shock me anymore. For anyone who spends as much time on Tik Tok as I do, you surely would have come across that one true-crime video doing the rounds (linked here for your reference). Yes, I am that friend. So, when Netflix's latest documentary Murder Among The Mormons was first announced, I didn't give it much thought. Until I watched the first trailer.

The three-part docuseries has already generated a worthy amount of buzz across the streaming platform and the internet. The thrilling series was created by by documentarian and filmmaker Tyler Measom and Napolean Dynamite-creator Jared Hess; who both happened to grow up in the Mormon faith. Working alongside the formidable duo is true-crime veteran, Joe Berlinger; known for his work on The Ted Bundy Tapes and more recently, the chilling Netflix documentary on the disappearance of Elisa Lam.

Pipped as the "first comprehensive look at one of the most shocking crimes to have ever taken place among the Mormon community," Murder Among The Mormons already has me, and many other true-crime buffs on the edge of their seat.

Here, we share every detail we know so far about the series. To find out how the explosive tale ends, however, you'll have to schedule in a date with your couch and Netflix account.

What is Murder Among The Mormons about?

Murder Among The Mormons follows the investigation into three deadly and mysterious pipe bombs which exploded in Utah in 1985 – killing two members of the Latter-day Saints community. The crime took place in Salt Lake City, which is still home to the highest population of Mormons in the United States. Understandably, the targeted attack shook the LDS and Mormon community to its core; leading to the bizarre and untold tale of document forgery that engulfed the church and the lengths people will go to, to conceal the falsehoods.

"The murders send further shockwaves through the community when a trove of early Mormon letters and diaries are found destroyed in the vehicle of the third victim, a renowned collector of rare documents, including the infamous White Salamander Letter—an artefact whose contents threatened to shake the very foundations of Mormonism. As he fights for his life, investigators race to uncover the truth," reads the official synopsis.

Speaking from personal experience, the trailer for Murder Among The Mormons had me gripped from the opening line. "The only way to keep a secret between two people, is to kill one of them... it's kind of true." Clearly, off to a pretty chaotic start – which is exactly how us true-crime fans like it. From there on in, the trailer provides an exclusive look into the fascinating world of the LDS church during its heyday. I think it's best if I let the trailer speak for itself.
