Hey MTV welcome to the past! ‘Cribs’ is making a comeback

MTV cribs

If you were feeling nostalgic for some pre-Kardashian, pre-Real Housewives celebrity entertainment, Architectural Digest's YouTube channel is about to be up against some very credible competition, with the announcement that MTV's Cribs is set to make a comeback.

Join the rich and famous in their giant homes once again. For those who may have missed the iconic early aughts show, the series was based on a humble premise: to take viewers through the doors of their abodes of celebrities in a fun, energetic way. When the series was on air, we didn't have the technological advances of the modern moment, so witnessing what celebrities could get their hands on if the price was right was like peering into a scene from The Jetsons, not to mention the sleuthing satisfaction it brought.

The new season will reportedly return on August 11, and already has an iconic lineup of new and old favourites, including Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross, Big Sean, Christian Siriano, Johnny Weir, JoJo Siwa, Jordyn Woods, Kathy Griffin, Marsai Martin, Martha Stewart, Nick Young, Nico Tortorella, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Rick Ross, Ryan Lochte, Scott Disick, Tia Mowry, Tinashe, TJ Lavin, and others.

“Cribs didn’t simply introduce the celeb-reality genre, it created a blueprint for how we engage on social media,” said MTV’s president of content and chief creative officer, Nina L. Diaz, in a release. “We are thrilled to usher in a new era of this iconic franchise for audiences around the world.”

But will Cribs remain as popular as it once was with the rise of spin-off-esque shows, celebrity YouTube channels and social media accounts? What's to be of an episode of one of these peoples homes when they already exist on the internet? I suppose there is only one way to find out, and we'll be reaching for the popcorn in the process! In the meantime, revisit the highlights of the original Cribs, below.
