Our forever queen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and unproblematic king, Donald Glover (aka, Childish Gambino), have given us the treat of 2021. The formidable and talented duo have announced a new collaboration on an upcoming project that is rebooting one of the most iconic films of the early 2000s. That's right – Waller-Bridge and Gambino are creating a reboot of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's sexy and killer 2005 film, Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Against the backdrop of the 1950s track, Put Your Head On My Shoulder, Waller-Bridge and Glover took to Instagram to reveal the collaboration, which will take form in a TV-version of the action comedy, set to air on streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. While the series will be based on the 2005 Doug Liman film, the Instagram post made it very clear that rebooted version of the classic tale will have a strong hit of comedy.

In addition to starring in the Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot, the pair are also on-board as co-creators, and executive producers of the series, with Fargo's Francesca Sloane serving also as co-creator and showrunner. With Waller-Bridge's and Glover's names attached to the project, it's understandable that Amazon Prime Studios would be hanging for the Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot.
“Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Prime Studios, shared in a statement.
“Mr. and Mrs. Smith is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own. We’re thrilled to be working with them, and with such great partners at New Regency.”
The new series is set to hit our screens in 2022, but until then, keep an eye on this space for more details, (and hopefully) more videos of Waller-Bridge and Glover getting their boogie on.
