In a time where space and travel is limited, it appears that dreaming of snow and ski is a trend. For FW 21 Miuccia Prada transports us to the snowy slopes of Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Province of Belluno for Miu Miu's post-lockdown fantasy, "Brave Hearts."
Almost paganistic and ritualistic in nature, the models solemnly walk down one by one, faces cloaked in knitted ski masks, panned by soaring wide landscapes of the snowy white hills as the runway.
Apres ski reaches new heights with the collection bringing about childhood nostalgia of a time and memory of being sun kissed by the winter sun. Playful in nature, the collection teases us between inner wear and outer wear, oscillating between protective and seductive. Camisoles and slip dresses styled under ski jackets and puffer pants, quilted bikini sets with furry boots and arm warmers - the whole collection is a constant play on alpine lingerie.
Spirited and adventurous, the collection explored bravery and the challenges in overcoming something difficult. Giant ski suit onesies, luxe knits so delicate they teeter on sheers and shimmering party dresses layered over thermals and chunky boots - Miu Miu delivers the appropriate attire for the resurgence of the brave new woman that will emerge post pandemic times.
The AW 21 presentation also signifies the grand power of nature and a girly tongue-in-cheek play in colour with pastels and mix matched textures and adornments, making the collection feel flirtatious and light hearted.
The collection takes us through morning and night taking its final bow around a mountain bonfire. Models cloaked in studded wool coats and glimmering cocktail dresses emerge with flushed cheeks, running circles in worship, staring into the breadth of the fire before unifying as one in kinship.
Miuccia Prada introduces a collection to prepare us for the brave new world to come, in light of hope and optimism and courage in the way we dress, a pleasurable fantasy in born.
