Rainbow Studios presents Marley Alvarez’s next show, ‘State of The Art’

Ever since creatives Jade Gillet and Brent Gold of Rainbow Studios took over the iconic cobalt blue Darlinghurst shop front that Blue Spinach once inhabited for so many years, the vintage store-turned gallery space and concept store has become somewhat of a creative hub for the East coast art scene. Hosting various shows over the months since they first opened last year, the latest artist in residence is Byron Bay based Marley Alvarez.

A mixed media artist in her practice, Alvarez's work undulates between digital imagery, text, line drawing and painting. Being drawn to painting and creating from childhood, Alvarez explores each of her disciplines separately before marrying them together, exposing the artists world with colour and texture.

Through appropriating and repurposing household items, Alvarez developed an abstract approach to her practice, which was informed by a teen-hood filled with travel and exploration, fuelled by a lust for human connection, shaping her approach to her mixed medium works.

Now, Alvarez is coming to Sydney for her latest show, State of The Art, held at Rainbow Studios in Darlinghurst. A collection of her works, which have a post modern, street-like feel to them, will be available to view and purchase from opening night – which lands on the April 7 and is open to the public via RSVP – until April 21.

"Alvarez's endearing dedication to the importance of understanding the inner child in us all is represented throughout all of her works. Using scenes and settings that we can each connect and relate to, forms an intimate trust between artist and viewer. This immersive process takes you on Marley's journey of growth, understanding, and coming back to the inner child, arriving at visual mini-memoirs." A press release notes.
