Everything we know about Lily Collins’ ‘Polly Pocket’ film

It's little wonder in this post-Barbie world, that cinema has redirected itself  toward toy-themed movies. But one that we're particularly curious about is the news that Reese Witherspoon's production company, Hello Sunshine has taken the reigns of the live-action Polly Pocket film, with Lily Collins set to star.

First teased back in 2021, Lena Dunham was first attached as writing and directing the project. But the Girls star dropped out of the film in mid-2024, saying, “I wrote a script, and I was working on it for three years." She contineed, “I think Greta [Gerwig] managed this incredible feat [with ‘Barbie’], which was to make this thing that was literally candy to so many different kinds of people and was perfectly and divinely Greta. And I just — I felt like, unless I can do it that way, I’m not going to do it. I don’t think I have that in me. I feel like the next movie I make needs to feel like a movie that I absolutely have to make. No one but me could make it. And I did think other people could make Polly Pocket.”

So, what does a post-Dunham Polly Picket film look like? Here's what we know.

What will the Polly Pocket movie be about?

We don't know much about the plot just yet, however Mattel has previously shared that the live-action feature film would follow the story of a young girl and a pocket-sized woman who form a friendship.

Who is involved?

Emily in Paris star Lily Collins was announced as the lead in the film, and will also produce but the rest of the cast remains a mystery for now. When Collins initially announced her titular role, she said in an Instagram post that “As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true, and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen".

Collins' production company, Case Study Films, is also producing.
