St Jerome's Laneway Festival is returning in 2023, after what will be a three-year hiatus from the Australian music scene. Having celebrated their 15th anniversary in 2020, the event has been on the backburner due to pandemic-induced restrictions effecting the live music industry.
While the festival won’t be returning in 2022, the team behind the event announced the future of Laneway in a social media post, noting they would usually at this time of year "be sailing the Laneway cruise liner into Australia/NZ, docking at Adelaide."
“For obvious reasons, we have decided to sit out again this year but rest assured, we are busy bees preparing for Laneway ’23,” the post continued. “With the exciting news announced recently that our borders will open to all visa holders in late Feb along with the reopening of Sydney and Melbourne's dance floors, we feel there's an optimism and confidence that things are returning to 'normal' quite soon.”
Who will be playing at Laneway Festival?
While a lineup is still to be announced, the organisers said they have already booked a plethora of acts for the 2023 event, leaving us with bated breath to see who will be gracing the travelling stage this time next year.
“It's unusual for us to have booked so many acts so early on but that is what we can confirm we have done for Laneway 23; and it's already feeling like one of those very special Laneway lineups.”
“There are so many exciting ideas and dreams coming into the picture and we look forward to sharing them with you into the new normal.”

Prior to the pandemic, Laneway Festival spent much of the 2010s taking seasoned live music acts across Australia, from local artists to international inclusions. In past lineups, these have included Charlie XCX, The 1975, Client Liaison, Ocean Alley and Tame Impala. Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Fremantle are typically included in the selected Laneway host cities.
