Janelle Monae turntables

Amazon Studios' newest feature, All In: The Fight For Democracy is available today September 18 on Amazon Prime Video. And this new documentary film features an extraordinary new record from Janelle Monáe - a song created and written especially for the film.

The new song from Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter-performer-producer-actress-activist is called Turntables - a powerful anthem, and Monáe’s first new music since her third solo album DIRTY COMPUTER in 2018.

Turntables is a song that echos the message of All In: The Fight For Democracy, a film which examines the insidious issue of voter exclusions and suppression in the USA. It comes at a particularly pertinent time, as we lead up to the 2020 presidential election. This issue affects millions of Americans, and disproportionately BIPOC. Through the use of small, seemingly innocent prerequisites in order to be able to vote, many sections of the American population are excluded from voting and denied the ability to share their voice. It's a fundamental flaw in the democratic process that has in the past and could continue to inhibit the change we need to drive towards a better future for all - not just the privileged.

The film weaves personal experiences, current activism and historical insights which expose a problem that has impacted American democracy from the very beginning. Of particular importance, the film shows perspectives and expertise from Stacey Abrams, the former Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives and founder of voter suppression advocacy group Fair Fight Action.

All In: The Fight for Democracy shows a broken system, an insider’s look into laws and barriers to voting that most people don’t even know threaten their basic rights to a voice in government. The feature is directed by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker Liz Garbus, and Oscar-nominated and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Lisa Cortés. It's been produced by Garbus, Cortés, Academy Award-winning producer Dan Cogan and Stacey Abrams.

In coordination with All In: The Fight for Democracy, the filmmakers and Amazon Studios have launched #ALLINFORVOTING, a social impact campaign brought together by nonprofits and grassroots organisations. The campaign will release digital content designed combat misinformation about the voting process, and launch targeted programming to educate and register first-time voters.

Janelle Monáe is one of the most celebrated artists of our time. This eight-time Grammy-nominated artist is an activist and fashion icon. She was the perfect voice to lend power and vision to this important documentary feature. You can listen to her record Turntables here.

All In: The Fight For Democracy is in select theatres and is streaming exclusively via Amazon Prime Video from today. Watch the trailer below.
