Not convinced UFOs are real? J.J. Abrams’ latest documentary will probably change your mind

UFO documentary J.J. Abrams

If your familiar with the pool of sci-fi filmmakers in Hollywood, the name J.J. Abrams will certainly ring a bell. And even if you're not, Abrams barely needs an introduction. The director behind Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and probably my favourite noughts series, Lost; is used to captivating audiences through tales of fiction. But for his latest project, J.J. Abrams is taking on the world of documentaries, taking a closer look into the UFO phenomenon in a new documentary.

Simply titled UFO, the documentary will see J.J. Abrams will explore the “unsettling theories of a subject that recently reached national headlines, and has historically been the focus of powerful politicians and CEOs, while average citizens pursuing the very same truth have been ridiculed and ostracised”.

Working in collaboration with directors Mark Monroe and Paul Crowde, the four-part docu-series which will air on Showtime is also aiming to expose how the American government, lucrative private companies, and the military have potentially been fabricating the truth in order to serve personal agendas. While also taking into account “the history of the phenomenon through cultural and political touchpoints, including shocking testimony from eyewitnesses across the country.”

It's no secret that the world is abuzz with UFO talk right now. Just a couple of months ago, former President Barack Obama confirmed in an interview that "there’s footage and records of objects in the skies, that we don’t know exactly what they are, we can’t explain how they moved, their trajectory.” Similarly, the Pentagon also verified the legitimacy of leaked UFO footage filmed by US Navy personnel back in 2019. It only makes sense for J.J. Abrams – someone who is unafraid of pushing boundaries in filmmaking – to produce a documentary at the forefront the UFO discussion.

Aside from a loose plotline, not much else is known about the upcoming UFO documentary by J.J. Abrams. But if the world's thirst for extraterrestrial content (and confirmation) is anything to go by, this is sure to be a hit.
