From love to heartbreak: what we know about Dolly Alderton’s newest novel

Dolly Alderton teases second novel 'Good Material'.

Anyone who's thumbed the pages of a Dolly Alderton book can tell you that the British writer knows thing or two about love. But Alderton's latest offering is slated to be about its antithesis: heartbreak. The bestselling author of Ghosts and Everything I Know About Love teased the release of her much-anticipated new novel Good Material on her Instagram yesterday, which she says readers can expect to find in stores and on bookstore shelves in November this year.

Alderton has had a busy past year, having spent 2022 producing her seven-part Everything I Know About Love series (adapted from her best-selling memoir). She also published her book Dear Dolly, which featured a considered selection of her Sunday Times Style columns, alongside a brand new essay.

What do we know about Dolly Alderton's Good Material so far?

In its synopsis, Alderton's newest work of fiction is said to follow 35-year-old Andy as he navigates his struggling comedy career, social media paranoia, a slowly shrinking friendship group and the devastating end of a relationship with a woman he thought was going to be 'the one' - all while crashing on the couch of his best friend.

It's the first time Alderton has written from the perspective of a male lead character, so we're interested to see her take. If her other books are anything to go by, Good Material is sure to be a page turner, both heartbreakingly relatable and deliciously witty - like a warm hug for the soul, written by someone who feels like they could be your best friend or older sister. We can't wait to get our hands on a copy later this year.

When can I pick up a copy?

Good Material by Dolly Alderton is slated to be published by Penguin on 2 November 2023.
