Shape Shifter: Dior Women’s Fall 22, as seen inside the pages of the ‘Wonder’ issue

Dior Fall 2022 was Maria Grazia Chiuri’s most daring collection yet to engage with the hallmarks of Monsieur Dior himself. Bar jackets, corsets and New Look silhouettes reimagined in a contemporary lens permeated the collection, seen in the pages of the 'Wonder' issue, lensed by Jess Ruby James and styled by Charlotte Agnew.

As with all designs conceived under Chiuri, there was an underscoring inspiration stemming from female empowerment, courtesy of her relationship with feminist artists. A blend of modernity and technology, she spoke of how modern machinations and inventions should find a larger place in the fashion industry, as they have in our greater livelihoods.

“We have this idea that technology is something just a little bit unreal,” Chiuri offered before the collection walked the runway for the first time. “We use technology more for communication, and think less about how it can help us to live better. We are used to expecting it in very practical things: washing machines, but not fashion.”

The artistic concept behind the collection symbolically looks ahead to a time when women will rule the world – and do it more successfully. Against the landscape of the male-run state, it’s a poignant thought conveyed through the clothing itself: grey suiting, technical jackets and protective racer gloves. In Wonder, we see dresses styled to evoke an edgy sensibility, with models Franny Richardson and Ploy Rida swathed in brocade gowns, lace and corsetry, all hallmarks of Chiuri's Dior.
