Our favourite comfort movies for when you need a cinematic embrace

For the days when the world feels a little too loud, there’s a special kind of solace found in the movies that feel like home. These aren’t just movies to numb the noise, but stories that invite us to reconnect – with ourselves, our emotions, and the quiet warmth of familiarity. Comfort movies have a way of weaving themselves into the fabric of our lives, resurfacing when we need them most. They’re the ones we’ve grown up with, that have held us through childhood and now accompany us into adulthood, always there, like old friends, or a warm blanket we put around us, to remind us that sometimes, all we need is a little cinematic embrace.

And while these films may not all be award winning – in fact, some might even have rather a low rating – there's definitely something inherently heartening about them. It's the way that after all these years we can revisit them, watch them over and over again and still loved them as you did as a child. Whether it's Remy from Ratatouille or Chihiro in Spirited Away, when we try and put the words together to express why it is we can watch these movies all over again, we often find ourselves at a loss. These stories may be animated or fantastical, but the emotions they stir are very real, and that's why they linger in our hearts.
