A birthday surprise for us all! This week, the beloved Cher tweeted that in celebration of the eve of her 75th birthday, she’ll have her life story unfold on movie screens through Universal Pictures in a biopic helmed by legendary screenwriter, Eric Roth.

Roth, who scripted Suspect, which Cher starred in years ago, is responsible for the scripts of films like Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Dune. For the yet-untitled biopic, the film will tell the story of Cher's life and career as "she evolved from being a shy duo partner to a pioneer for female entertainers in song, fashion and celebrity, unafraid to speak her mind and champion worthy causes." Reports Deadline.  From her teenage partnership and later marriage to Sonny Bono, to her flourishing solo career, Cher's story is, as imagined, one that points to a well-lived life.

Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, who are the names behind Mamma Mia! Which Cher starred in the follow-up, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and got to know the production duo well during their time filming. According to Deadline, Craymer said it was an easy match to team up. They are reportedly keeping exact details of the film under wraps, but we imagine it will be less of Meryl Streep sighing and more geared towards a Bohemian Rapsody style biopic.

“Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true-life odyssey to the big screen. One cannot help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger-than-life talent, fortitude, unique wit, warmth and vision,” Craymer told Deadline. “Her unparalleled success in music film and TV have inspired generations. We could not be happier to tell her story to cinema audiences.”

With all this in mind, sit tight, and stay tuned to find out when it will be released and most importantly - who will play Cher.
