A new album from BLACKPINK is officially on the way

blackpink second album

After much speculation, YG Entertainment has confirmed that BLACKPINK will drop its second album sometime during August. The girls are back, baby!

We're just going to come out and say it: we told you so. Earlier in April we picked up on rumours that Rosé, Jennie, Jisoo and Lisa were set to follow up their first album, simply titled THE ALBUM, which was released in 2020, with another and what do you know? Call us psychic.

According to a press release from YG Entertainment, the foursome are gearing up for a massive end to the year. “A lot of BLACKPINK-esque music has been prepared over a long period of time. On top of new music and large-scale projects, BLACKPINK will also go on the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group by the end of the year to expand their rapport with fans worldwide.”

Could this mean an Australian tour? We sure as heck hope so. While most of the details surrounding the album are being kept firmly under wraps, such as an official release date and tracklist, we do know that Rosé, Jennie, Jisoo and Lisa are in the final stages of recording, per Variety. As for a name? Our bets are on THE ALBUM 2? Or something of that ilk. However, if we've learned anything from all four band members, it's that they're full of surprises, so we could certainly be in for something completely different.

So it's time to give “How You Like That” a rest and make way for whatever BLACKPINK has in store for us. It's going to be big.

BLACKPINK hasn't just been busy making music. Most recently, Lisa touched down in Paris for Celine Menswear SS23, and Jennie is reportedly making an appearance on HBO and The Weeknd's The Idol.
