While we might not forgive the Princess Diaries for attempting to persuade us that Anne Hathaway lacked inherent princess-worthy qualities before her grand Cinderella transformation, her most striking style evolution isn't showcased in any of her film roles, but rather on the red carpets today.
Once the reigning princess of 2000's chick flicks, embodying Mia Thermopoulis in Princess Diaries and the beloved Andy Sachs in fashion's cult favourite, The Devil Wears Prada. Her most recent role she plays, Solene, a 40- year old woman that falls in love with a 24 year old rockstar in The Idea of You
Yet behind every Princess stands a fairy godmother, and for Hathaway, it's her current stylist Erin Walsh. Having previously worked with Law Roach, it became evident that his avant-garde approach didn't quite align with Hathaways essence. Prior to 2022, her fashion choices seemed sporadic, with looks often overpowering her presence. Since joining forces with Walsh, the duo has consistently delivered sartorial perfection with each and every appearance.
Since finding her stylistic groove, Hathaway defies the revolving door of trends, such as 'quiet fashion', and plays with the artistry and frivolousness of fashion by adding androgyny, method dressing and exacerbations to the finer details to create refined looks, with the occasional bold pieces, to give the people what they want. Yes- I am alluding to her reincarnation as Andy Sachs. With bangs and wearing a brown leather jacket, sitting next to the real life Miranda Presely at last years Michael Kors show- every detail seems to evoke a scene straight out of the movie itself. And to Erin Walsh, we salute you for that.
Below, we round up some of Anne Hathaway's most iconic looks on and off the screen.
