‘Futureplayground’ – the latest from adidas by Stella McCartney is here

adidas Stella McCartney FUTUREPLAYGROUND

Since 2004, we have cherished the long-term partnership between sustainable British designer Stella McCartney and global sportswear label, adidas. The duos critically acclaimed collaboration has grown over the years to include several athletic disciplines – continuously embracing bold patterns and prints while always staying true to the brand's sustainable core. McCartney and adidas's latest collection, FUTUREPLAYGROUND, follows this ethos; created primarily from ocean plastic waste and recycled materials.

The new sustainable performance range marks the first chapter of adidas by Stella McCartney’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection. An ode to the next generation of environmentally and socially conscious youth, and inspired by street sports and female skate crews, FUTUREPLAYGROUND is yet another perfect marriage of modern silhouettes and streetwear aesthetic.

Championing “bold, clashing, and expressive prints,” adidas by Stella McCartney's first SS21 instalment is centred around the theme of land, with a closely followed second chapter based on the theme of water. On the sustainability front, FUTUREPLAYGROUND was produced using only the best, high-quality, sustainable materials – including PRIMEBLUE (a high-performance recycled material made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic), and PRIMEGREEN (a high-performance yarn, featuring 50 percent recycled materials).

For the first time in the collaboration's history, the entire campaign was spearheaded by an entirely female lineup of creatives. McCartney and adidas relinquished creative control to a young group of female activists, creators, and directors from different parts of the globe including longtime Stella McCartney ambassador Lourdes Leon and Japanese artist Monika Mogi.

Speaking of the decision to create the campaign through this lens, McCartney shared in a statement, “Young people today are so full of creative ideas. [They] have an incredible energy. So I think it’s really important to give them opportunities to share their work and vision.”
