Off-duty musings with S/B/ By SABA

Throughout history, model off-duty style has been revered for its "effortlessly casual" approach. Largely, this boils down to a need for comfort and a certain tactility when travelling between cities or even across town for shows each day, and has solidified itself as one of the most desirable dressing approaches in our fashion lexicon today. I suppose this is the effect models have on our consumer habits. As far as influences go, we have greats like Daul Kim, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Erin Wasson to thank for its boom, with the baton carried by the new wave of runway models – Bella Hadid, Paloma Elsesser, Adesuwa Aighewi and the like.

Today, off-duty has transcended in meaning from models to every-day people, fundamentally indicating a shift away from rigid office attire and embracing the idea of transitioning seamlessly between work and life. This increasing necessity has caught the attention of brands across the globe, and Australian retail icon SABA has taken note too, with their S/B/ By SABA line.

Designed to elevate the every day, S/B/ By SABA focuses on causal fabrications and tailoring, off-duty denim and luxe separates to build on a capsule wardrobe made to withstand seasons and trends. Tapping into the idea of clothes that can take you through life, S/B/ By SABA has thoughtfully curated an edit of silhouettes for work, weekends, and the in-between.

The new collection bridges the gap between comfort and style with pared-back leisurewear designed to be lived in, a sentiment that can be echoed by models Reem Elnour, Mercy Rose Watson, and Gigi Midgely. Below, we chat to the faces of the collection, created in collaboration with RUSSH, about style philosophies, every day essentials, and how emotions influence getting dressed.

Reem Elnour

Can you describe your personal style?

I’m all about being comfortable, but still colourful and cute.

Does the way you feel influence what you wear day-to-day?

I try to not allow the way I’m feeling internally influence how I dress, because I find that even on bad days, if I’m dressed up it’ll make me feel better.

What does style mean to you?

To me, style is a reflection of my personality and the things I’m inspired by. It takes years to develop your unique style and I'm only just finding mine because I've had to understand what not only suits my body, but also my lifestyle (I'm always on the go, so I need to be comfy).

If you have 5 minutes to get ready, what are you doing first?

For my face, I'm brushing up my eyebrows and putting on lip gloss. Then I would throw on some bike shorts, a baggy shirt and shoes. I would accessories with a cute bag or fun earrings.

What does style mean to you?

Self expression.

If you have 5 minutes to get ready, what are you doing first?

Tinted moisturiser, brush my brows and lip balm.

Gigi Midgely

Can you describe your personal style?

I think the best way to put it is a cluster of old and new. Most of my clothes are vintage with fun bright colours that tie in with timeless pare backed pieces.

Does the way you feel influence what you wear day-to-day?

Definitely. My mood is the defining factor to what I wear day to day. Some days I like to dress like a boy, and others my mood craves colours and something fun to play in.

What does style mean you?

Personal style is just you radiating yourself in a day to day setting. It’s how you walk through the world.

If you have 5 minutes to get ready, what are you doing first?

Making sure I have everything.Wallet, keys, mask, phone.

What are your wardrobe staples?

My diamond belt, old pair of jeans, my runners, and a comfy shirt.
