‘A Stranger Calls’ – Freja Beha Erichsen stars in Prada’s Holiday campaign

A language of film and cinematic drama. Prada releases its 2020 Holiday campaign, A Stranger Calls, lensed by the great Steven Meisel.

With a mystery to be solved and a narrator reading words that the intimate images bring to life, the Prada 2020 Holiday campaign is based on an original short story conceived and written for Prada by the best-selling author, Candice Carty-Williams.

The campaign proposes altering perspectives, different angles, views and cuts around the protagonist of the unfolding narrative, leading the focus to Prada’s iconic accessories, jewellery and leather goods. The images echo like vintage Hollywood movie stills, forming new panorama’s and fragments of an enticing and unexpected story about the unfold.

In the tradition of film noir, the campaign becomes layered with historical references and features five pivotal faces and characters from the Prada universe including RUSSH favourite and Issue #50 cover star, Freja Beha Erichsen, along with Maty Fall, Mao Xiaoxing, Rudolfs Valbergs and Merlijne Schorren. The incredible cast populates an isolated villa in Italy no less, called the Villa Gnutti, the incredible space was originally made famous through a 1981 shoot lensed by Helmut Newton.

The stills are inspired by the aesthetics of cinematic drama. Photographed solely in black and white, the details of Prada’s accessories are brought to focus. Like plot-points or clues to an unknown mystery, they dominate the frame, drawing attention and becoming characters in themselves through Steven Meisel’s iconic lens.

Accessories brought to the forefront include Prada’s new Cleo bag, the Galleria bag, vanity compact-bags, nylon travel accessories, precious jewellery in silver or gold with tourmaline, delicate chain necklaces, lariats, chandelier earrings and men’s jewellery.

Exploring emotion, tension, intrigue, attraction and desire with a cinematic shifting focus. This is the living narrative for Prada’s 2020 Holiday campaign.
